Num futuro próximo, em que os veículos sem condutor já são comuns e considerados muito seguros, um pirata informático apodera-se do sistema operativo de oito carros, altera o destino programado e avisa os seus passageiros de que irão morrer dentro de horas.

A comissão constituída para avaliar acidentes com este tipo de veículos automáticos vê-se agora confrontada com uma missão muito mais difícil: seguindo as instruções do Hacker, terá de entrevistar cada um dos passageiros e decidir qual deles salvar. Câmaras ocultas nos carros asseguram uma transmissão mundial através das redes sociais e permitem acompanhar em direto o terror dos passageiros.

O Hacker parece saber tudo sobre os intervenientes, e, à medida que mais informações são reveladas sobre cada um deles, esta decisão difícil parece tornar-se impossível. Afinal, até que ponto permitimos que as primeiras impressões determinem o que pensamos acerca de alguém?
